The event will be followed by a reception and a tour by British artist Mark Neville through the exhibition 'Displaced Ukrainians' which he developed in cooperation with ZOiS.

One group of people severely affected by the war in the Donbas region remains hidden from view: the displaced. By the summer of 2016, the Ukrainian Ministry for Social Policy had registered close to 1.8 million internally displaced people (IDPs). Since 2015 Ukraine has been among the ten countries with the largest IDP populations worldwide. Moreover, about another one million have fled from the conflict zone to the Russian Federation. Through their displacement, the affected individuals fall outside standard opinion polls, they do not figure in international media reports (and hardly figure in the Ukrainian and Russian media), and in policy circles they are primarily seen as a humanitarian aid issue. This ZOiS panel discussion brings together scholars engaged in empirical research on the displaced in Ukraine. The discussion will focus on the demographic and socio-economic profile of the internally displaced, a range of political, socio-economic, and legal issues connected to the issue of displacement as well as the attitudes and identities of the displaced.
