Youth Mobilisation and Political Change: Participation, Values, and Policies Between East and West

► Youth often plays a key role in bringing about political and social change. This is especially true in moments of crisis, where youth can provide a highly contested imaginary of a country’s experiences and expectations. This workshop wishes to explore the role of youth in these two interrelated dimensions, youth as actor and object. Papers address questions of the political participation of young people in the form of protest as well as in state-controlled organisations, the social and political values of young people, and the policies aimed at shaping the outlook of the young generation. These topics are addressed from a comparative angle. We will look closely at what young people do and what is done with them in moments of regime crisis across various political contexts.
