A Journey to the East

07/12/2021

An event hosted by the Körber-Stiftung

The 8 December marks the thirtieth anniversary of the end of the Soviet Union. A disintegration with far-reaching consequences, the break-up into independent states shapes the political map and geopolitical power structures to this day. Gwendolyn Sasse, Director of the Centre for East European and International Studies, is a bridge builder between East and West who knows all about the simmering conflicts in the region and the mutual strangeness of both worlds. She explained why we urgently need to engage more with ‘the East’. The first opportunities for this arise on a digital journey from Moscow via Bishkek to Belgrade, where virtual encounters with young people from Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Serbia guarantee a change of perspective!
