Film by Ineke Smits

Recording from the film "Little Man, Time and the Troubadour". Stout&Smits

The film by Dutch director Ineke Smits (Stout&Smits) about the troubadour Sipa Labakhua takes us through different places and to different people living in Abkhazia. Sipa Labakhua is an artist who left Abkhazia with his family in the early 1990s. He has come back to tell the story of his father, who tried to mediate in the conflict in the early 1990s but was unsuccessful and left Abkhazia, only to return later in old age. The son travels through Abkhazia as a showman with a puppet theatre and tells the story of his family. He asks questions about the idea of homeland and about flight and return.

In conversation with director Ineke Smits and ZOiS researcher Diana Bogishvili, we want to talk about homeland and flight in a region shaped to this day by an unresolved conflict.

The event will be held in German.
